Neighborhood Awards
The $500 Denise K. Shea Memorial Scholarship Winner: Darren Parzych - 2006 Recipient. Darren graduates eleventh in his class of 318 from Springfield Central High School. He enrolled in advanced placement (AP) courses in English, Calculus and Chemistry. His activities in school include Key Club, National Honors Society, Computer Club, and Mathletes. Darren also participates in Gymnastics, Soccer and Tennis teams. Darren plans to attend Rose- Hulman Technical Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana.
DiGiovanni Family - was recognized for maintaining the terrace at the corner of Allen and Island Pond Road. Kristyana DiGiovanni represented the DiGiovanni family and has helped with the terrace over the last seven years. The terrace is in honor of Kristyana’s brother who was
killed in a car accident.
Neighborhood Beatification Award: Eddie's Market (Owners: Fran Rosso, Kate Garvey) – Eddie’s opened in 1958, and Fran Russo and Jim Garvey have owned the store since 1989. The store was presented the award due to the renovations made to the location over the last two years.
Sister's Kids was recognized for helping our neighborhood grow by opening their business. Sisters’ Kids is owned and operated by three sisters: Rosa Falvo, Diana Gisolfi, and Joanna Ferrentino. The family was inspired to open the store after each sister had three children of their own! Sisters’ Kids has been open for 5 years this February.
